How to DIY Garage Door Weather Stripping

Your garage door has no weather stripping yet? That is cruel. Garage door weather stripping is one of door protection especially for your garage. It gives your garage good looking and protects your vehicle due the weather like winter. Here are some steps that you need to do and prepare to seal garage door.

To do this work, of course we need some materials in order to help you in DIY garage door weather stripping. First of all you need to buy weather stripping. We recommend you to buy the same color with your garage door due the aesthetic look of your garage. Second thing is hammer which helps you to nail the weather stripping. Thirdly, air compressor and brad nailer for strengthen your hammer nail. Don’t forget to prepare scissors. Last but not least, some safety tools such as ear protection and glasses. You have the braid nailer and its compressor as optional here because you can manually use hammer to nail them.

Steps of DIY garage door weather stripping
Unroll your garage door weather stripping, but do not trim before you have measured your garage door needs. Use your safety tools and then start to pull weather stripping on an end top side of the door.  Remember, you need to divide weather stripping width into two segments, shorter and longer. The shorter must be against the door’s frame and the longer vice versa. Next step, nail the top end of weather stripping on the frame of door side. Till here, you have two options. Keep using manual nail or use the air compressor and brad nailer.

Why not both? The formula is after one nail down, use four staples after it in order to get strong weather stripping on your garage door. Of course, manual nailing needs more time consuming than brad nailer. It is up to you. Once you reach the bottom side, trim the weather stripping by using scissors. You need to trim it with tilt angle on the longer side.

The reason is to help you continue your work in sealing other sides of garage door. If you find an overlapping part, just trim it easily.
